UK Nintendo Magazine Gets the Axe

Just as video killed the radio star, internet gaming publications will soon kill off print. It’s a sad, unavoidable truth that has gradually been coming into fruition over the last few years. Whilst multiformat magazines such as Edge and GamesTM still have regular readers, smaller magazines are dying on their feet.

UK Nintendo magazine NRevolution is the latest printed publication to face the chop, with the last issue going on sale December 11th. However, is the internet really to blame in this particular instance? The new casual market that Nintendo have established have no need for such a magazine, and core gamers know of far better places to feed their desire for Nintendo news. Certainly the internet and competitor publications will have had some effect, but in this case, the exact market the magazine is intended for is the problem.

I personally love a physical magazine to read. Reading off a computer screen just doesn’t have the same appeal as flicking through the pages of your favourite monthly mag. Without lowering the tone too much, if print did die completely, what would anybody read when they’re sat on the lav? I’ve been buying GamesTM for some time now, and don’t intend to stop anytime soon. Yes, most of the news is out of date by the time I read it, but the insightful features, retro lookback and game artwork will always keep me coming back.

Print’s not dead just yet.
